Stations of The Cross
Station 1 - Jesus is condemned

1.   Jesus is condemned

So when the governor spoke and asked them, "Which of the two do you want me to release for you?" they said "Barabbas".   "But, in that case," Pilate said to them, "what am I to do with Jesus who is called Christ?"   They all said, "Let him be crucified!"   (Matthew 27:21-23)
Station 2 - Jesus receives Cross

2.   Jesus receives Cross

Then his disciples remembered the words of the scripture: Zeal for your house will devour me.   The Jews intervened and said, "What sign can you show us to justify what you have done?" (John 19:17-18)
Station 3 - Jesus falls the first time

3.   Jesus falls for the first time

It was essential that he should in this way become completely like his brothers so that he could be a compassionate and trustworthy high priest of God's religion, able to atone for human sins. (Hebrews 2:17-18)
Station 4 - Jesus and his Mother

4.   Jesus and his Mother

"All who pass this way, look and see: is any sorrow like the sorrow that afflicts me?.........and that is why I weep; my eyes dissolved in tears, since the comforter who could revive me is far away.   (Lamentations of Jeremiah 1:12,16)

Station 5 - Simon helps Jesus

5.   Simon helps Jesus

"Happy are you when people hate you, drive you out, abuse you, denounce your name as criminal, on account of the Son of Man.   Rejoice and dance when that day comes and dance for joy, for then your reward will be great in heaven.   This was the way their ancestors treated the prophets." (Luke 6:22-23)
Station 6 - The face of Jesus is wiped

6.   The face of Jesus is wiped

Then the King will say to those on his right hand, "Come, you whom my Father has blessed, take your heritage the kingdom prepared for you since the foundation of the world.   For I was hungry and you gave me food; I was thirsty and you gave me drink; I was a stranger and you made me welcome; naked and you clothed me, sick and you visited me, in prison and you came to see me." (Matthew 25:34-37)
Station 7 - Jesus falls second time

7.   Jesus falls for the second time

Jesus replied to them: "Now the hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.   I tell you solemnly, unless a wheat grain falls on the ground and dies, it remains only a single grain; but if it dies, it yields a rich harvest." (John 12:23-24)
Station 8 - The women mourn

8.   The women mourn

Large numbers of people followed him, and of women too, who mourned and lamented for him.   But Jesus turned to them and said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep rather for yourselves and for your children." (Luke 23:27-28)
Station 9 - Jesus falls third time

9.   Jesus falls for the third time

Let us not lose sight of Jesus, who leads us in our faith and brings it to perfection: for the sake of the joy which was still in the future, he endured the cross, disregarding the shamefulness of it, and from now on has taken his place at the right of God's throne. (Hebrews 12:2-3)

Station 10 - Jesus is stripped

10.  Jesus is stripped

When the soldiers had finished crucifying Jesus they took his clothing and divided it into four shares, one for each soldier.   His undergarment was seamless, woven in one piece from neck to hem; so they said to one another, "Instead of tearing it, let's throw dice to decide who is to have it." In this way the words of scripture were fulfilled:they shared out my clothing among them.   They cast lots for my robe. (John 19:25-25)

Station 11 - Jesus nailed to Cross

11.  Jesus is nailed to the Cross

After the suffering of his soul, he will see the light of life and be satisfied; by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities.   Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the strong, because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors.   For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. (Isaiah 53:11-12)
Jesus on the Cross (12)

12.  Jesus on the Cross

After this, Jesus knew that everything had been completed, and to fulfill the scripture perfectly he said: "I am thirsty."   A jar full of vinegar stood there, so putting a sponge soaked in the vinegar on a hyssop stick they held it up to his mouth.   After Jesus had taken the vinegar he said, "It is accomplished"; and bowing his head he gave up his spirit. (John 19:28-30)
Station 13 - Jesus is taken down

13.  Jesus is taken down

Consequently the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first man who had been crucified with him and then of the other.   When they came to Jesus, they found he was already dead, and so instead of breaking his legs, one of the soldiers pierced his side with a lance; and immediately there came out blood and water.

After this, Joseph of Arimathaea, who was a disciple of Jesus - though a secret one because he was afraid of the Jews - asked Pilate to let him remove the body of Jesus.   Pilate gave permission, so they came and took it away. (John 19:32-34, 38)
Station 14 - Jesus is laid in tomb

14.  Jesus is laid in the tomb

You have been taught that when we were baptised in Jesus Christ we were baptised in his death; in other words, when we were baptised we went into the tomb with him and joined him in death, so that as Christ was raised the dead by the Father's glory, we too might live a new life. (Romans 6:3-4)
